Give staff a practical response when work does not begin, while giving students a clear way to communicate what is getting in the way. This Work Refusal Toolkit combines neutral teacher scripts, access checks, student help requests and worked staff cases to plan a manageable route back into learning. Staff practice and student activities are clearly separated so you can use the tools for team discussion and direct teaching.

How to use it
Use with special education teams, classroom staff or school support teams, then teach the student communication tools during a calm lesson or check-in. The 6-session sequence identifies staff training, student teaching and staff rehearsal separately. Low prep: print the selected staff and student pages, and cut the 24 staff cards if using team stations. Keep individual records private and follow established access, health and school safety plans. These tools support communication and classroom access; they do not diagnose motives or replace a functional behavior assessment or an individualized support plan.
