Play Día de los Muertos Lotería in Spanish class! This Day of the Dead Spanish vocabulary game has 36 original illustrated cards, each with a short rhyming caller verse in Spanish, 30 different tablas, a caller list with English meanings and a blank editable Lotería template. Follow-up speaking, listening and writing pages turn the game into real language practice for Spanish 1 and Spanish 2, with a respectful culture reading that presents Día de los Muertos as a living family tradition, not "Mexican Halloween."

How to use it

Play it during the week of Día de los Muertos (November 1 and 2) or any time you teach the holiday in Spanish 1 or Spanish 2 (grades 6-12). Use the cards in easy mode (show and say), classic mode (verse, then name) or riddle mode (verse only). Students can take turns as the caller in small groups. Teacher pages are in English; student pages give directions in Spanish followed by English. The cards and pictures are original; they do not copy the traditional Lotería deck.
