Spanish color by number mystery pictures that really practice vocabulary! In this no-prep Spanish 1 activity pack, students read 12 short clues in Spanish, write each answer, find it in the answer bank to get its color, and color a 20 x 20 pixel grid to reveal a hidden picture. Ten mysteries cover ten core vocabulary sets, and many wrong answers show up as a patch of the wrong color (some wrong answers share a color, so the key lists every written answer too).

What's included

  • Teacher guide: how it works, learning goals, materials and differentiation (support, on level, challenge)
  • Sub plan for one class period, a fill-in note for the substitute, early-finisher and fast-checking tips
  • Standards page: ACTFL World-Readiness Standards and Novice Low to Novice Mid can-do goals, with contents
  • 10 mystery pictures, each with a clue page (12 clues + an answer bank with extra words) and a 20 x 20 coloring page:
  • A bonus question on every coloring page: name the picture in Spanish
  • 10 exit tickets (one per mystery, 3 questions each)
  • Make-your-own mystery template: a clue and answer-bank planning sheet (print or digital) plus a blank 20 x 20 grid (print only), with step-by-step directions
  • Answer keys: each finished picture in color, every answer with its color, regional words to accept, and the exit ticket answers with scoring notes for the open questions

How to use it

Use the mysteries as sub plans, early finisher work, a Friday activity, vocabulary review before a test or a calm activity before a break. Each one fills about one class period (15-20 minutes for the clues, 20-30 minutes for the coloring) and stands alone, so use them in any order. Teacher pages are in English; student pages give directions in Spanish followed by English. Every grid was generated and checked by computer against its answer key, and every code is a clue number, so a wrong patch of color points straight to the clue to fix. Every extra bank word has a color that is not in the picture, so a decoy always leaves a stray patch.
