Give your high school students $10,000 in practice money and 8 weeks of breaking news! The Brindlewick Exchange is a no-prep stock market simulation: students invest in nine fictional companies, a total market index fund and a savings account, react to weekly news cards, buy and sell whole shares with a $5 practice fee, and track their gains, losses and percent return. No website, logins or live market data needed.

What's included

  • Running the game: the weekly 5-step routine, teacher tips and what happens each week
  • Standards page (Common Core math + Jump$tart Investing) and contents
  • 3 pages of guided notes with word banks: stocks, shares and dividends; risk, return and diversification; long-term investing, hot tips and fees
  • Game rules with a worked example of every calculation
  • Meet the Market: 9 fictional companies in 9 different industries, an index fund and a savings account

  • My Opening Plan, Transaction Log, Holdings Tracker and Weekly Scoreboard with a graph and benchmarks (copy extra pages for students who trade a lot)
  • 8 weekly news cards that explain every big price move

  • Mid-Game Check with a sample portfolio to analyze
  • Gains, Losses & Percent Return: a 10-investment table + 4 real trades from the game

  • Hot Tips & Fees: a hype-and-crash case study plus fee math
  • Vocabulary sort (24 cards) + recording sheet
  • End of Game: What If? comparing the index fund, savings and every single stock
  • Reflection + exit ticket, a 12-question quiz and a 20-point rubric
  • Teacher master price board and complete answer keys with every calculation shown, plus sample answers for open questions

How to use it

Run it as a one-week unit, or as one 15-20 minute round each week over a grading period, in financial literacy, personal finance, economics, business or consumer math. You keep the news cards and Market Updates and reveal one week at a time; students read the news, see the new prices, trade and update their scoreboards. Prep is just copying (and cutting the vocabulary cards).
