Help students turn a genuine interest into a manageable question, useful product and evidence-based presentation. This Genius Hour Passion Project gives teachers a structured launch with interests such as music, coding, sports, animals, art and games, plus worked examples for original game design and pixel art. Planning, source checks and revision pages help students explain both what they learned and what their evidence can support.
What's included
- Teacher guide with a 6-session sequence, materials and differentiation: support, on level and challenge
- Printed standards/skill connections and page-by-page contents
- 4 lessons on an interest and purpose, a manageable inquiry question, sources/claims and notes in your own words
- 24 interest-led project-launch cards, each with a starter question and evidence route, plus 2 recording sheets
- 3 original offline practice texts: an original game brief, simulated game feedback and a pixel-art design brief; all are clearly labeled fictional practice material
- 2 worked mini-projects for an original board game and pixel-art icons
- Project proposal, evidence/interpretation notes, product outline and milestones/resources planner
- Progress check, peer review, obstacle case and prototype/success-criteria planning
- Presentation planner, learning reflection and final product check
- Final inquiry check and a Trail Tokens case about revising an overclaim
- Complete answer keys and model responses, plus an inquiry-project rubric
How to use it
Use across subjects in grades 6-12, inquiry time, enrichment or supported research lessons. The printed plan supports a 6-session launch or a 6-week classroom cycle; adapt the project size to available time. Low prep: print the planning pages and cut the 24 launch cards if using an interest carousel. Start offline with the fictional practice sources or use current, credible teacher-approved sources for a real factual project. Any trial with other people must be approved and voluntary, and students should label simulated information, keep private details out of public work and explain evidence limits.
