Get students ready to order food on their own! These reading a menu life skills worksheets use four realistic, age-respectful restaurant menus (a fast-food counter, a sit-down diner, a pizza place and a coffee shop) with leveled questions for every menu. Students find items and prices, add totals, use the next-dollar-up strategy, decide "Do I have enough money?", and work up to tax, tips and budgets.

What's included

  • Teacher guide with flexible 10-session pacing, materials and differentiation (support, on level, challenge)
  • How to use the levels + 5 sample IEP goals you can adapt
  • Standards page (Common Core math, speaking & listening, Jump$tart personal finance)
  • Menu vocabulary: 12 picture word cards + practice (entrée, side, combo, to go, subtotal, tax, tip...)
  • 4 realistic menus drawn with clear pictures: Big Stack Burgers, Sunny Side Diner, Fireside Pizza Co., Maple & Bean Coffee
  • 12 leveled question pages (3 per menu):
  • Next Dollar Up lesson and practice (circle the $1 bills, write the amount, find change)
  • Combo vs. Separate: is the meal deal really cheaper?
  • Ordering scripts for a counter and a sit-down restaurant, plus what common phrases mean
  • 8 leveled role-play order cards (cut apart)
  • Menu Skills Check: an 8-question pre/post assessment with a food truck menu
  • IEP data tracking sheet with progress graph and skill checklist
  • Complete answer keys

How to use it

Use it in life skills, special education, transition or functional math classes. Students at different levels can share the same menu while working on their own level's page. Use the role-play cards and scripts to prepare for community-based instruction trips, and the Skills Check to collect IEP data. Print and go: just cut the role-play cards.
